THE MALVERN WALKING FESTIVAL 2018
Welcome to the 17th festival! This year we have 51 walks, 3 of them multi day in an exciting programme with surely something to interest all. The Malvern Hills are famed for their dramatic scenery, truly deserving their designation as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Many of our walks are on and around the Malvern Hills but there are plenty further afield in the lovely countryside of Worcestershire and the neighbouring counties. There is a rich variety and range of walks, from short local strolls through to long challenging walks for the very fit and adventurous, with durations of morning afternoon, evening and all day. We offer a rich variety of themes, including History, Geology, Nature, Music and Literature as well as notable people, buildings and events associated with the area.
Two walks again feature Madresfield Court and its gardens. New themed walks this year include farming, the history and legacy of quarrying, trees and a trail from the Elgar birthplace museum. Our ever popular 6 day Discovery Trail explores the delightful countryside around Ludlow, the Clee Hills, Wenlock Edge, Church Stretton, the Long Mynd, Clun and Knighton. There are two 3 day walks. One based on the Three Choirs Way, picking the best sections of this historic route. The other takes the southern part of the fascinating Geopark Way as it makes its way from Gloucester Cathedral to Malvern. For the very fit and energetic we’ve reintroduced the 31 mile long “Worcestershire Way in a Day” challenge and we again feature the strenuous ultimate walk “The Malvern Hills, End to End and Back”
